You don’t want to miss this opportunity to test your skills and endurance on the Syllamo Mountain Bike Trail in the beautiful Ozark Mountains of Arkansas.  Unlike many mountain bike trails that have a limited area for trail construction, the Syllamo Mountain Bike Trail stretches over thousands of acres of the Ozark National Forest, and offers riders changing scenery and beautiful views of the White River and Sylamore Creek Valleys, and the Ozark Mountains.

The 2010 Course will give riders 50  miles of dedicated single track, that has earned IMBA Epic status.

Immediately Following The Event: Beverages will be supplied by New Belgium Brewing Company, and Hamburgers and Hot Dogs right off the grill will be served to all riders.

Thumb Picking Weekend

Merle Travis was a phenomenal showman and master of the “thumb picking” style of guitar.  The Ozark Folk Center pays tribute to him as well as others who have embraced this unique and melodic technique.

Featuring Moon Mullins, Eddie Adcock and Ben Hall
with special guest Washtub Jerry on the evening concert.

Saturday afternoon at 2:30 National Thumbpicking preliminaries.

Your daytime ticket to the Craft Village will allow you entrance into the Theater to watch the preliminary round of competition.

Evening concerts Friday and Saturday nights at 7:00 p.m. Box office opens at 6:00 p.m.; tickets available at the door.

Tickets $10.00 Adults; $6.00 children 6-12, under 6 free.  Season passes will be honored.

1st. Ever Dulcimer Workshop With Jack Giger and Mary Tangen-Giger at “The Inn at Mountain View

May 21st. & 22nd.


Jack plays guitar for the band as well as an occasional mountain dulcimer, dulci-jo and mandolin. He called Collinsville, Illinois home for many years and is retired from full time social work for the State. Jack is known for being a workshop leader and teacher at various festivals as well as the original organizer of the Great River Road Dulcimer Festival.
Mary grew up in the Chicago suburbs but moved away too long ago to remember. She still works at the Dulcimer Shoppe in Mountain View, Arkansas, home of McSpadden Dulcimers. Mary plays mountain dulcimer, mandolin, dulci-jo and anything else she can get her hands on. She also started singing out when Jack urged her to a number of years ago. Mary has also taught mountain dulcimer at various festivals.
Jack and Mary were full time RVers, living and moving around the country in their motor home with their Pembroke Welsh Corgi named “D”Major (named after the key that the mountain dulcimer is tuned to) They are now residents of Mountain View, AR but still have a small motor home to travel south in the winter.

Learn to make your own beautiful jewelry that will be treasured by generations to come.
May 24 – 25, 2010 Ozark Folk Center

Wire Wrapped Jewelry

Learn to make your own necklace and ring with your unique flair. The class will cover design, wire measuring, secure stone setting and finishing details.  All tools necessary will be provided, but if you have your own jewelers tools, feel free to bring them. Students will start with brass practice wire and move on the precious metal wire for their finished piece.

Class fee $200, which covers all materials. Additional materials and tools will be available to purchase.
Preregistration is required. A non-refundable registration fee of $30 is due when you sign up.
The remaining $170 is due to the teacher at the beginning of class.

Minimum students – 3/maximum 8.

Team teaching Wire Wrapped Jewelry are Charles and Linda Widmer.  Linda specializes in pendants while Charles will instruct in wire rings. Linda and Charles are well known for their unique and beautiful jewelry designs. Linda has many pieces in private collections and Charle’s style is a part of his many years as a world-reknowned wood carver and silver smith. The couple are demonstrating jewelers at the Ozark Folk Center.  They have been making jewelry for 21 years and have been in the arts and crafts business for over 31 years.

Arkansas Symphony Orchestra May 27th

The Ozark Folk Center is proud to announce that as part of their regular Thursday night show on May 19, 2010, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra will be joining us. They will be presenting “Fiddlin’ with the Classics”. This should prove to be another entertaining and provocative performance by the Orchestra. Be sure to join us and the Ozark Folk Center performers for a musically fun-filled evening.

The show will start at 7:00 p.m. with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $10.00 for Adults, $6.00 for Children 6 – 12. Memorial Day Weekend—3 night minimum—20% discount to active military!
