Comfort Foods Cooking Class

What did the Ozark Homesteaders eat to keep warm and fed during the winter? Join us on January 11, from 10:00 a.m.to 2:00 p.m. in the Skillet Restaurant Kitchen at the Ozark Folk Center for this Comfort Food cooking class and learn how to make these simple, inexpensive, healthy, old-fashioned winter meals handed down from early settlers.

You’ll learn to make simple stews, bean soups and Ozark pudding. Recipes, history and instructions will be provided for each dish. Lunch will be a chance to sample what you have cooked in class.

Class cost is $30.00. There is a non-refundable registration fee of $10 and the remaining $20 is due at the beginning of class. Meet your instructor at 10 a.m. in the Administration Building lobby and go from there to your classroom.

Registration deadline is January 5. Class is limited to 8 students.

Traditional Winter Fare Cooking ClassSimple stews, beans and dried fruit cobblers made up the staple meals for early homesteaders in the Ozarks. Come spend a day learning how to make these comfort foods.
We’ll learn the secrets to make a great corn meal mush, ham and beans, corn bread, hearty stew, Ozark pudding and Skillet Cake.
Class starts at 10:00 a.m. and ends by 2:00 p.m. Registration deadline is January 21 at 5:00 p.m.
Class cost is $30.00, which includes a lunch of what you’ve cooked and copies of the recipes. There is a non-refundable registration fee of $10 due when you sign up, with the remaining $20 due at the beginning of class.
Class size limit is 8 students.
Meet your instructor in the Adminstration Building lobby at 10:00 and you will go from there to your classroom.
